Questions and Answers.
Why Math?
- Mathematics and logic are the foundations for
all learning.
No parents need to be convinced that mathematical
thinking is important to their child's future in school and
beyond. Given the technological nature of today's world, the
role of mathematics is self-evident. Invariably, the math lessons
your child will encounter down the line in school will not always
be fun. Nor should they be. But at least if your child enters
school with a positive attitude and a good foundation upon which
to build, there is a better chance that school-type math will
be a source of satisfaction.
The activities that we are using to teach your child are first
and foremost FUN and they essentially sneak in mathematical
lessons while your child isn't looking.
Why do we start teaching kids in
grade K?
- Because they like to learn math.
For many of us, the word "problem" brings to mind
unpleasant images - work to be done, worrisome issues to be
resolved, and priorities to be sorted out. But this is not the
attitude with which we begin life. Solving problems is actually
fun for kids. The feeling of meeting a challenge is satisfying
at any age, and by providing your child with successful experiences
early in life, there is a better chance that he/she will retain
a positive attitude as he/she gets older. Given the degree to
which problem solving pervades every aspect of formal schooling,
from math to zoology, a child who takes pleasure in figuring
things out is bound to be a better and a happier (!) student.
At this age they are still exploring the world around them,
and they learn not because they have to, but because they find
it interesting. We will do everything thet we can for your child
to preserve this ability.
- Because it is the best age to start learning
Math.
A
number of parents asked us: When should a child start learning
Math? We all know that knowledge sinks into a child's head much
easier than into a head of a grown-up and stays there much longer.
The earlier your child learns basic mathematical concepts, the
better prepared your child will be for the more complicated
subjects taught in high school; the better they will "stay"
with him or her through the life; the better your child's logical
and analytical skills will be in the long term. Let's not forget
that mathematical ability is one of the most important criteria
used in the SAT and for admission to all colleges.
How much are parents involved in math tuition process?
- It will not work without you!
We
believe the most important and essential part of making your child's
learning into success lies in your active involvement. We want
to emphasize that simply providing your child with reading material
and sets of exercises rarely works on its own. Your help will
be needed and expected. Please read the material too and make
sure that your child understands it and can do the exercises.
Since you are the one who is working with your child, only you
can truly know the level of your child's understanding. If you
feel that he/she had problems with certain topics, it is your
responsibility to contact us.
